…I wish I lived in a world where I wasn't necessary…

Officially alive again, Millie Willard finds out that being ‘dead’ in Europe is safer than being ‘alive’ at home as she tracks down the real cause of her father’s death.

Homeland - Excerpt from Chapter 2

Back at my apartment, I was supposed to be readying my equipment to be stored in a safe location while I was away. Instead, I was just staring at it; rethinking the events of the day. Everyone assumed that the senator was the target, but it really did look like he was aiming at me. I could not speculate as to why the senator, but as for me, if the information about me taking out Vonikov is common knowledge, then it’s very possible I was the target. People from his organization looking for revenge wouldn’t worry too much about proving my guilt. This could make things messy. I needed to talk to Harfax, and find out what was going on.

I called Cali instead. “Hello, Cali?”

“Skank, what’s going on? You were involved in a shooting?”

“News gets around pretty fast.”

“Girl, I work for the CIA.”

“Yeah, well, you’re definitely good at what you do. You wouldn’t happen to know who or why, would you?”

“No, not yet, the FBI is looking into the senator’s background.”

“I don’t think he was the target.”

“What?”

“From where I was, it looked like he was aiming at me.”

“Well, he was standing right behind you, I don’t think they cared much who got in the way. He’s lucky you were there.”

“What if it I was the target and he’s unlucky I was there?”
